Elizabeth NJ Man Veered into Wrong Lane of Traffic on NJ Turnpike, Sustained Serious Injuries
Law enforcement is investigating a recent car accident that left an Elizabeth NJ man in critical condition.
The accident occurred around 12:35 a.m. The victim, a 37-year-old man from Elizabeth, was driving his 2003 Saturn on the New Jersey Turnpike in Newark, NJ. At some point, the victim’s vehicle suddenly veered across the lanes and headed into oncoming traffic along the northbound section of the highway.
The victim’s car came to a stop when he collided with a vehicle headed in the opposite direction.
Afterwards, the victim was rushed to nearby University Hospital. Doctors at the medical facility treated the victim for serious injuries and stabilized his condition. The day after the car crash, the victim was still listed in critical condition.
Meanwhile, according to NJ State Police, the driver of the other vehicle involved in the wrong-way crash sustained minor injuries. He was also taken to University Hospital, where doctors treated him for a moderate hand injury.
While both victims recuperate and try to recover from their physical injuries, New Jersey State Police officials are conducting an investigation into the accident and trying to determine exactly what might have caused the crash.
At this time, police have not cited either driver for a moving violation. It is possible that the individual who drove his car on the wrong side of the road could be cited for a traffic offense such as reckless driving or careless driving.
Additionally, depending on the outcome of the police investigation, it is also possible that one, or even both, of the drivers may be able to file a personal injury claim to receive compensation for their injuries and to cover the cost of the damage to their cars.
