Police Raid Residence of Hillside NJ Resident, Allegedly Find 5 Pounds of Marijuana
Hillside NJ police recently arrested a local man who allegedly had five pounds of marijuana inside his residence.
According to authorities, the Hillside Police Department received a tip about illegal drug activity at the suspect’s home. Hillside NJ detectives then started an investigation into the suspect and eventually uncovered enough evidence to obtain a search warrant.
When Hillside law enforcement executed the search warrant during a drug raid of the suspect’s house, they reportedly discovered, and subsequently seized, five pounds of marijuana. Hillside NJ police also seized drug packaging materials and items.
The 27-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to Hillside police headquarters. He has been charged with numerous drug crimes, including possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, distribution of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, the suspect has been charged with possession of marijuana within 500 feet of a public park because his home is located near a park.
If the suspect is convicted on the most serious charges of marijuana distribution, he faces significant criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5, anyone who distributes, or possesses under their control with intent to distribute, a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) such as marijuana can be charged with a felony-level offense. In this case, the suspect is accused of distributing five pounds of pot. This is an important number, because it represents the cutoff for a third degree crime being upgraded to a second degree crime. A conviction on second degree marijuana distribution charges could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect remained in police custody. He was being held on a $50,000 bail amount.
