Police Seize $50,000 of Drugs from Plainfield Homes
On Tuesday, April 25, police seized $50,000 of drugs and $1,200 of cash from two different homes in Plainfield, NJ. Authorities claim one man, suspect Michael Mitchell, 37, was using the two homes to manufacture and distribute Heroin, Cocaine, and Marijuana.
Plainfield police reportedly found 20 grams of raw heroin, 1,650 folds of heroin, more than 3 pounds of marijuana, and an undisclosed amount of cocaine between the two different homes, one located on Emerson Avenue and the other on South 2nd Street.
The police further stated that they also charged Mitchell and Ricky Sloan, 50, residents of the 2nd Street house, with unspecified drug-related offenses.
Heroin Distribution and Possession Laws Union County Attorney
Heroin drug charges are possibly the most serious drug charges in New Jersey. Prosecutors and lawmakers are well aware of the effect heroin use is having on New Jersey communities, and as such often seek maximum penalties for any case involving heroin possession or heroin distribution.
Heroin is classified as a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (CDS), Schedule I being the classification for the most dangerous drugs, with high potential for abuse, and no accepted medical uses. With this in mind, NJ lawmakers have made heroin possession a third degree felony, meaning a conviction can carry 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison, and fines as high as $35,000.
Heroin distribution and intent to distribute charges and penalties are even more serious, and vary depending upon the weight of Heroin found. The lowest heroin distribution conviction is a third degree crime, and carries a maximum of 5 years in state prison and a $75,000 fine. The highest possible heroin distribution conviction is a first degree crime, and carries a 10-20 year state prison sentence.
As you can see, New Jersey and Union County take heroin possession, heroin distribution, and intent to distribute heroin extremely seriously. If you are charged with any of these crimes, it is essential that you retain an experienced Elizabeth drug charge attorney to help you challenge state evidence, and protect your financial and legal future.
